The bear is constructed from golden-yellow mohair plush with a five-way jointed body and beige felt paw pads. It features hand-embroidered black thread nose, mouth, and claws, and is fitted with an internal growler mechanism. A maroon ribbon is tied around the neck, embroidered with the date 1908 in metallic gold-coloured thread. The left ear is fitted with a brass button and a white fabric label printed in red with the vertical number 037207, alongside horizontal text reading Lim.Auflage 3.000 Stck., Brummbaer Paul, and the individual edition number 02244. A CE mark is printed at the far edge of the label. Accompanying the bear is a white paper certificate headed ZERTIFIKAT for PAUL DER BRUMMBÄR, featuring the Steiff bear head logo and the words Steiff KNOPF IM OHR followed by the motto Freunde fürs Leben.
