Description

This lot features two examples of jasperware produced by Wedgwood in England. The first item is a pedestal dish, or tazza, crafted in a pale blue jasper body. It features a flared circular dish mounted on a matching pedestal base. The upper surface of the dish and the base are decorated with white bas-relief sprigged ornamentation depicting a continuous wreath of grapevines and leaves. The underside of the base bears the impressed marks WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND, along with the smaller incised characters 6, 4, and S.

The second item is a cylindrical biscuit barrel or ice pail in a dark blue (cobalt) jasper body. It is fitted with silver-plated metal mounts, including a rim with a swing handle, a lid with a decorative finial, and three ball feet. The ceramic body is decorated with white bas-relief neoclassical figures in a garden setting, including female figures and cherubs (putti) amongst trees. The underside of the ceramic base is impressed with the marks WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND. The silver-plated rim bears indistinct impressed marks that are not legible as specific characters.
