Lot 147:
An Assortment of Decorative Metalware Including 1937 Coronation Spoon and Cheese Slicer
Description
An assortment of decorative metalware and commemorative tableware. The collection includes a large cheese slicer featuring a polished heart-shaped blade with a rectangular slicing aperture. The blade is stamped with the characters RUSTFRI and PAT. 43377. It is fitted with a decorative scrolled silver-colored handle that shows signs of silver plating.
The group contains a commemorative souvenir spoon for the 1937 coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The circular terminal is topped with a crown and features embossed profile busts of a male and female figure facing left. The top of the medallion is embossed with the word CORONATION and the base with the date 1937. The bowl of the spoon is engraved with the name Ludlow in cursive script. No sterling silver hallmarks are visible on the spoon.
Also included is a slender decorative implement, possibly a pick or small fork, featuring an openwork handle with pierced foliate decoration. The handle terminates in a cast metal figure of a standing deer or stag. The collection is completed by a set of three identical circular metal discs or coasters. Each disc features a central motif of a bird with outstretched wings positioned beneath a crown. The central image is surrounded by an embossed border of floral and foliate scrolls.
