Description

A heavily aged early 20th-century postcard album, landscape format, containing an assortment of topographical and greeting postcards. The album is bound in hardcover boards finished in a distressed grey-toned cloth or paper featuring a printed Art Nouveau floral design of a red flower and green scrolling stems. The front cover is printed with the title POST-CARDS in a black stylized font.

The interior consists of thick grey-green card leaves with pre-cut diagonal slits to house postcards, typically arranged in groups of four to six per page. The collection includes a range of color and monochrome postcards depicting British coastal and town views, including Brighton and Ipswich, alongside several topographical views of Malta such as Fort Chambray and the Fish Market. One illustrated greeting card is present featuring the word XMAS in holly-decorated lettering.

A number of postcards have been removed from the album and are displayed separately. These reveal handwritten correspondence addressed to Mrs S. Williams and Miss Ada Brumby at 55 Strathleven Rd, Acre Lane, Brixton, London, S.W. The cards bear several green George V half-penny stamps and postmarks with legible dates including 1907 and 1914.

Height: 9.25 inches.
