Lot 7:
A Collection of Vintage Decoupage Slate Plaques and Mid-Century British Motor Fuel Ration Book
Description
This lot comprises an assortment of vintage decorative objects and historical ephemera. The primary items include two rectangular slate wall plaques featuring decoupage artwork under thick varnish. One plaque depicts a coastal scene with a large building, and the second depicts a nocturnal street scene with figures and a carriage. On the reverse of each plaque is a printed white adhesive label titled DECOUPAGE SLATE WALL PLAQUES, which details the 18th-century origins of the craft and the production process involving up to 30 coats of varnish. The labels identify the maker as Craft Ideas, providing telephone numbers for Bleadon 814024 or Edingworth 705. Smaller secondary labels on the reverse identify the subjects as Scarborough by J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) and Greenwich by Lamplight John Atkinson Grimshaw (1836-1893). Both plaques are fitted with cord hangers secured through drilled holes.
The collection also includes a British Motor Fuel Ration Book, serial number MH 3109375. The cover is printed with specifications for a Motor Car 1101-1500 C.C. and 10-13 H.P. The lower text states the coupons authorise the acquisition of units of motor fuel. Additional items in the lot consist of a small cast brass hand bell with an ornate loop handle, a miniature silver-tone metal frame containing a relief portrait of a figure, and a circular metallic object, possibly a coin or medal, housed in a square plastic protective case.
