Description

A group of sterling silver smallware comprising a christening spoon and matching food pusher, a souvenir spoon, and a condiment spoon. The child’s christening set features handles with openwork terminals decorated with an embossed stork standing amongst reeds. Both the pusher and the matching spoon are engraved with the name Margaret Anne Eckersley and the date Nov. 24th 1932. These two pieces bear an impressed maker’s mark L&B in a rectangular cartouche, alongside Birmingham assay office hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor, and the gothic lowercase date letter h for 1932.

The group also includes a commemorative souvenir spoon with a shield-shaped terminal featuring a blue enamel crest for the University of Oxford. The crest depicts an open book with the motto DOMI MINA NVS TIO ILLV MEA. This spoon is hallmarked to the reverse of the handle with a lion passant, an anchor, and a date letter B. The final item is a small silver spoon with a plain oval bowl and a flared, ribbed handle terminal.
