Lot 83:
An Assortment of Silver and Silver-Toned Jewellery with a Maria Theresa Thaler Restrike Coin
Description
A collection of silver and silver-toned items comprising jewellery and a numismatic specimen. The lot includes a silver bullion coin, an 1780 Maria Theresa Thaler restrike. The obverse displays a right-facing bust of the Empress with the raised Latin inscription M THERESIA D G R IMP HU BO REG and the initials S F below the sleeve. The reverse features the Imperial double-headed eagle with a central coat of arms, surrounded by the legend ARCHID AVST DUX BURG CO TYR 1780 X. The X following the date identifies this as a post-1780 restrike.
The jewellery selection includes three religious pendants. The first is a circular medallion depicting a bearded figure holding a child, possibly St. Joseph. The second is an almond-shaped mandorla pendant depicting the Virgin Mary with a yellow-toned central finish and the word LOURDES embossed at the base. The third is a smaller circular pendant showing a grotto apparition scene.
Also included are two bracelets. One is a wide multi-strand design featuring eight parallel chains of openwork diamond-shaped filigree links, secured with a bar and toggle style clasp. The second is a delicate chain bracelet with three elongated oval filigree stations and a spring ring clasp. While the Maria Theresa Thaler is traditionally struck in .833 fineness silver, no hallmarks for silver purity such as 925 are visible on the jewellery components.
Total weight: 51.43 g.
