A matching pair of sterling silver-cased condiment grinders by A. J. Poole. Each grinder is designed in a traditional capstan form, featuring a waisted body and a domed top. The set comprises a pepper grinder, distinguished by a gilt finial, and a salt grinder with a silver-tone finial. Both pieces are constructed with silver casings over internal grinding mechanisms.

The lower body of each casing is struck with a full set of British hallmarks. These include the maker’s mark AJP in a rectangular shield for A. J. Poole; a lion passant standard mark for sterling silver; a stylized lowercase a date letter; an anchor assay office mark for Birmingham; and a 925 standard mark in an oval cartouche. The base of one grinder shows a circular white adhesive residue mark.
