The piece is surmounted by a figurine of a linnet bird depicted in a singing pose with an open beak, featuring a characteristic reddish-pink breast and greyish-brown head. The white bisque porcelain bell-shaped base is decorated with applied three-dimensional pale yellow flowers and green leaves on a textured brown branch. A fine gold-gilt band borders the bottom edge. The interior features a white ball clapper suspended from a metal wire. Printed in black on the inner surface is the name THE LINNET by the artist Peter Barrett, whose signature is reproduced in cursive script. The mark also includes a copyright symbol followed by the date 1985 and the name THE FRANKLIN MINT.
