The globe consists of printed paper gores applied to a sphere, mounted within a graduated metal meridian ring and supported by a turned ebonised circular base. The cartography includes principal steamship routes with distances in nautical miles and principal transcontinental railways. Geographical features indicate a pre-Second World War date, showing Japanese mandates in the Pacific, such as Volcano Is. (Jap.) and Ogasawara Is. (Jap.). The Pacific Ocean area contains a printed black oval cartouche reading HAMMOND’S, 12 INCH, TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, 3035, Principal Steamship Routes with, Distances in Nautical Miles, Principal Transcontinental Railways, C.
