A mahogany-stained hardwood kneehole desk of kidney-shaped form. The desk features a curved top over five drawers arranged around a central kneehole, comprising a wide central drawer flanked by two tiers of two drawers. The drawer fronts are fitted with brass batwing-style backplates and bail handles, alongside matching brass escutcheons. The piece is supported by four cabriole legs, each decorated with a carved shell motif at the knee and terminating in ball-and-claw feet. The drawers are constructed using thin-pin through-dovetail joinery. The reverse of the desk is finished, allowing it to be positioned in the centre of a room. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the interior or exterior of the piece.
