A George III mahogany eight-day longcase clock. The case is constructed from mahogany and features a swan-neck pediment with carved scrollwork terminals and a central finial. The hood is flanked by two fluted columns. The trunk features a long door with a shaped top and a brass escutcheon, resting on a square box base. The arched white-painted dial has black Roman numeral hour markers and an outer Arabic minute track. The arch includes a rotating moon phase disk decorated with a painted lunar face and two terrestrial map hemispheres. Two subsidiary dials for seconds and the date are located on the main dial face. The four spandrels are hand-painted with classical female figures representing the four seasons. The dial is inscribed in black script below the 12 o’clock position with ‘Manchester’ and above the 6 o’clock position with ‘Hampson & Thelwell’.
