A matching pair of octagonal lacquer trays, each featuring a recessed central octagonal panel decorated in gilt with a chinoiserie landscape depicting pagodas, pavilions, and trees on a black ground. This central panel is framed by a wide ochre-coloured border featuring a scrolling foliate and floral pattern. The outer canted rim is finished in red lacquer and embellished with a repeating geometric interlocking circle design in gilt. The items are accompanied by a printed paper receipt with handwritten entries. The receipt is dated 15-12-2015 and bears the printed heading Received from Mrs followed by a redacted name. The handwritten text describes the items as a Pair early 19th C red lacquer + gilt trays probably Canton but possibly European for the sum of One hundred and sixty pounds (£160-00). The receipt is signed with an illegible flourish at the bottom. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are present on the trays themselves.
