A late 20th-century original watercolor painting on paper, executed in an expressionistic style. The composition depicts a sleeping cat in a reclining position, rendered with loose, fluid washes of charcoal grey and black, punctuated by vibrant areas of magenta and purple pigment. The artist has utilised wet-in-wet techniques to create soft, bleeding edges, contrasted by more defined brushwork in the feline’s head and ears. The subject rests upon a background featuring gestural, patterned strokes in ochre, blue, and brown, suggesting the texture of a rug or patterned textile. The work is executed on a textured wove paper.

The piece is signed and dated in the lower right quadrant in blue pigment, with characters reading REDMAYNE 90.

The painting is presented in a simple, mitred white wooden frame and is glazed. The work is framed without a mount or mat, with the paper edges visible beneath the glass.
