A Collection of UK Commemorative Crowns and Coins
Description
A collection of UK commemorative coins issued by the Royal Mint to mark various royal and historical milestones. The group features several crown-sized pieces and commemorative coins of various denominations.
Significant items include a 1977 Silver Jubilee sterling silver proof crown featuring the equestrian portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, housed in its original blue Royal Mint presentation box with certificate of authenticity and card outer sleeve. The collection also contains several cupro-nickel versions of the 1977 Silver Jubilee crown.
Other commemorative crowns include the 1965 Winston Churchill memorial issue in a hard plastic case; the 1972 Silver Wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip; and three 1980 crowns celebrating the 80th birthday of the Queen Mother, including two examples in original Williams and Glyn’s Bank plastic pouches. The 1990 Queen Mother 90th birthday crown is present on its official presentation card.
Later commemorative issues include the 1986 Commonwealth Games two pound coin and the 1999-2000 Millennium five pound crown featuring the Anno Domini reverse design with the British Isles and Greenwich Meridian.
