Description

A William IV rosewood tea or card table, dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, circa 1835. The table features a rectangular top with rounded front corners, constructed with highly figured rosewood veneers showing fiddleback patterns. A visible seam across the centre indicates a fold-over top mechanism. The top is positioned above a deep, figured frieze. The structure is supported by a substantial twin-pedestal base. Each pedestal consists of a carved, fluted, and bulbous column that terminates in shaped platform bases. These bases rest upon four scrolled and foliate-carved bracket feet. The piece is finished in rosewood veneers throughout. No maker marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the exterior or accessible surfaces.
