Lot 233:
A Trio of British Imari Palette Ceramics Including Davenport and Royal Crown Derby
Description
This collection comprises three pieces of British ceramics decorated in the traditional Imari palette of cobalt blue, iron red, and gilt. The first two items are a matching straight-sided jug and a tall cylindrical beaker produced by Davenport of Longport, Staffordshire, dating to circa 1850 to 1870. These earthenware or ironstone pieces feature hand-painted floral panels and geometric borders, and both are fitted with wide metal rims. The jug is designed with a moulded handle simulating bamboo in a terracotta colour. The bases of both Davenport pieces are marked with a red underglaze crown and anchor stamp with the text Davenport Longport Staffordshire and the hand-painted pattern number 6060. The third item is an oval serving dish by Royal Crown Derby in the Chelsea Garden pattern (A.1353). This English bone china dish features a floral and foliate border against a white ground. The underside bears a red printed Royal Crown Derby backstamp including the date code LXI, indicating manufacture in 1998.
