Description

This collection consists of original Vanity Fair supplement caricature prints, executed as chromolithographs on paper, dating from the early 20th century between 1905 and 1914. The subjects are notable figures from the Men of the Day series, depicted in formal Edwardian attire. A central print features Mr. F. E. Smith, M.P., titled A Successful First Speech: Moab is my Washpot, and bears the printed signature of the artist Spy, the pseudonym for Sir Leslie Ward, within the stone. Other identified subjects in the group include Mr. George Elliott and M. de Soveral. Each print features multi-colour lithographic printing with the rich and saturated tones typical of these publications. The prints include the original masthead text Vanity Fair Supplement and Men of the Day. All items are housed individually in clear plastic protective sleeves with white card backings and are unframed.
