A Collection of Vanity Fair Chromolithograph Caricature Prints, 1872-1902
Description
A collection of chromolithograph caricature prints originally published in the British weekly magazine Vanity Fair and its Supplement. The assortment depicts various prominent figures of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Notable artists’ monograms are visible, including Spy (Sir Leslie Ward) and T (Théobald Chartran). Identified subjects include Prince Napoléon Joseph Charles Paul Bonaparte (titled Plon-Plon) and Marthinus Theunis Steyn (titled ex-President Steyn). The prints feature mastheads for Vanity Fair or Vanity Fair Supplement and carry various publication dates between 1872 and 1902, such as July 1 1876, July 13 1878, and March 20th 1902. The printer’s credit for Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd. is visible along the lower margins. The prints are unframed and are housed in a red card folder with a typed label reading VANITY FAIR PRINTS 1869-1914.
