Description

A set of Mason’s Patent Ironstone limited edition Christmas plates, produced between 1975 and 1980. Each circular earthenware plate features a scalloped edge and a central sepia-toned transfer-printed landscape depicting a historic British landmark, including Windsor Castle, Woburn Abbey, Arundel Castle, Harewood House, Longleat, and Chatsworth. The central wells are surrounded by broad borders in varying ground colours, including cobalt blue, forest green, maroon, black, and red. These borders are decorated with polychrome floral sprays and stylized oriental motifs highlighted with gilt accents. The reverse of each plate bears a black printed backstamp which includes the year of production and the name of the depicted landmark. The mark features the Mason’s name above a crown and a scroll reading Patent Ironstone Made in England. The 1975 plate is specifically noted as the first of a series produced to celebrate Christmas. The collection is accompanied by original green cardboard presentation boxes bearing the portrait of Miles Mason and the dates 1752 – 1822.
