A Collection of Vintage British Postal and Souvenir Still Banks
Description
A collection of vintage still banks featuring varied designs and materials primarily focused on mid-20th-century British postal and souvenir themes. The group includes several lithographed tinplate examples such as two modelled as traditional British red pillar boxes featuring the GR (George Rex) royal cypher and Post Office Savings Bank branding. One pillar box includes separate slots for letters and newspapers. Other tinplate items include a teal-coloured book-shaped bank titled Westward Ho, a small oval tin with a crown and GR cypher, and a red book-shaped bank for the Post Office Savings Bank. Ceramic examples include a seated figure in traditional dress finished with a dark brown Rockingham-style glaze and a small house-shaped bank with a textured thatched roof and vertical slot. A hand-carved wooden clog with a metal band and central coin slot is also present. The tinplate pieces feature printed lithography, while the ceramic pieces are glazed.
