UK 1745 George II Silver Sixpence LIMA KM# 583.2
Description
This UK silver sixpence, identified as KM# 583.2, was struck during the reign of King George II and is dated 1745. The obverse features the laureate, draped, and armoured “old head” bust of the monarch facing right, with the Latin legend GEORGIVS II · DEI · GRATIA around the perimeter. Below the bust, the word LIMA is incised, signifying that the coin was produced from silver captured from Spanish vessels by Admiral Anson’s fleet. The reverse depicts four crowned cruciform shields representing the arms of England and Scotland (impaled), France, Ireland, and Hanover, arranged around a central Garter star. The reverse legend continues the monarch’s titles in abbreviated Latin: M·B·F·ET·H·REX·F·D·B·ET·L·D·S·R·I·A·T·ET·E·.
