Wade Earthenware Congratulations Commemorative Birth Mug

A Wade transfer-printed glazed earthenware commemorative mug manufactured in England. The vessel features a slightly flared pedestal base and a raised, moulded cartouche on the front surface. The decoration consists of a central transfer-printed illustration depicting a stork carrying an infant in a sling over a stylised English village landscape featuring a church. The central motif is flanked by floral sprays and the word Congratulations in cursive script. A smaller version of the stork motif and the word Congratulations are repeated on the interior rim. Both the upper rim and the base are finished with a gilt line. The base bears a red transfer-printed maker’s mark consisting of the name WADE between two horizontal bars with ENGLAND printed below, alongside the numeral 26.
