Lot 91:
A Collection of Taunton Cider Advertising and Decorative Ceramic Mugs and Loving Cups
Description
An assortment of ceramic vessels, including several pieces advertising Taunton Cider. The collection features multiple loving cups associated with the Taunton Cider Company, often attributed to Wade Potteries; these include examples with black transfer-printed text for Taunton Dry Blackthorn Cider, referencing matured oak vats at Norton Fitzwarren and the home of good cider since 1805, and a white-glazed version with a polychrome transfer of apples. The group also contains a large cobalt blue single-handled mug with gilded floral sprays and a scalloped rim. Other decorative items include a large blue and white transfer-printed loving cup with a rural landscape and floral interior border, a large floral-decorated vessel with a scalloped edge featuring flowers and shells, a cream-bodied cup with a brown transfer-printed rural scene, and miniature loving cups with black transfer-printed motifs. Completing the assortment is a single-handled mug decorated with a polychrome poppy and bird design. The pieces are predominantly glazed earthenware.
