Royal Doulton Stoneware Flask with Birmingham Sterling Silver Mounts, 1919
Description
A small, bulbous stoneware flask of squat form by Royal Doulton, featuring a single loop handle. The body is decorated with a variegated drip glaze in mottled tones of slate blue, grey, and ochre. The handle and base transition into a solid mustard-ochre glaze. The neck is fitted with a sterling silver collar and a cork-lined silver stopper. The base bears the impressed circular mark for Royal Doulton England surrounding a central logo of four interlaced Ds surmounted by a crown, alongside the impressed shape number 1424. The silver collar is stamped with a set of three British hallmarks including a lion passant for sterling silver, an anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter u for 1919.
