Antique Salter's No. 50 Family Scale with Brass Dial

An antique Salter’s No. 50 Family Scale spring balance manufactured by George Salter & Co. The instrument is constructed with a green-painted cast iron body featuring a stepped circular base and a horizontal support arm. It is fitted with a large, blackened metal scoop-style weighing pan. The circular brass dial is protected by a raised green-painted bezel. The face of the dial is engraved with a scale graduated from 0 to 24 lbs. A central black indicator needle is present. The centre of the brass dial is stamped with the following text: SILVESTER’S PATENT in an arc at the top, followed by SALTER’S FAMILY SCALE No 50. Around the outer edge, the dial reads TO WEIGH 24 lb to the left and BY 1 oz to the right.
