Description

This lot comprises a collection of chromolithograph caricature prints from the British publication Vanity Fair, spanning the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The assortment includes notable portraits of prominent figures such as HRH The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), titled a Freemason, dated July 11, 1885, and signed in the stone with the monogram Ape (Carlo Pellegrini). Another featured print depicts Lord Roberts, titled Bobs, dated June 21, 1900, and signed Spy (Leslie Ward). Other subjects include military, maritime, and musical figures. Each print bears the Vanity Fair masthead and several include the publisher imprint Vincent Brooks, Day and Son, Lith. The prints are presented unframed within a red card folder labelled Vanity Fair Prints 1869 to 1914. The works are executed on medium-weight paper stock with colours remaining generally well-preserved.
