The pin shank is struck with a full set of British hallmarks for Birmingham, 1999, with the maker mark B & S. These hallmarks include the 9 and .375 standard marks for 9 carat gold, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the lowercase script date letter z. The reverse of the heart charm is hand-engraved with the name Kitty and the date 17-9-99, which corresponds to the hallmarked year of manufacture (1899)
