19th Century English Oak Two-Compartment Storage Chest

An antique 19th-century English provincial storage chest or document box, constructed from quarter-sawn oak. The lid features a traditional frame-and-panel construction with three inset panels. The interior is partitioned into two fixed compartments of approximately equal size by a central wooden divider. The oak surfaces display prominent medullary ray flecks, particularly visible on the interior and lid panels. The box is fitted with two metal butt hinges and a recessed metal catch plate on the front edge.
