A British Army officer’s Sam Browne belt and shoulder strap set, manufactured from dark brown leather with brass hardware. The set consists of a wide waist belt with a rectangular double-prong brass buckle and a single diagonal cross-shoulder strap. The interior of the leather waist belt is stamped in black ink with a NATO Stock Number reading CE 8465-99-428-7227. To the right of this is a faded black ink maker’s stamp reading H & S (LON) LTD above a four-digit date, of which the first two digits 19 are clearly visible, while the remaining digits are obscured (photo 2). The shoulder strap bears an identical black ink stamp reading CE 8465-99-428-7227 (photo 2). The country code 99 within the NATO Stock Number identifies the item as official issue for the United Kingdom. The mark H & S (LON) LTD identifies the manufacturer as Hobson & Sons (London) Ltd. The belt includes various brass D-rings and sliders for the attachment of service equipment.
