Description
A pair of porcelain vessels comprising a large teapot and a smaller jug, both with matching lids. The pieces feature a light, shaded cream-to-white ground and are decorated with hand-painted naturalistic motifs of white herons (egrets) standing in tall grasses beside purple and white irises. Small birds in flight appear on the upper bodies and lids. The rims and the stylized floral finials are finished with yellow metal gilding. The curved handles are embellished with clusters of small black dots. Each base bears a hand-painted mark in brown ink consisting of two horizontal strokes above a character resembling a mountain shape; this mark is not legible as a name.
Teapot: Height 19 cm, Width 22 cm (spout to handle)
Jug: Height 13 cm, Width 16 cm (spout to handle).
