Lot 75:
An Assortment of EPNS Rose Pattern and Miscellaneous Silver Plated Flatware
Description
A collection of silver-plated and stainless steel flatware, featuring a part-service in a climbing rose pattern alongside various miscellaneous serving and dining pieces. The primary set is executed in electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) and includes dinner knives, dessert knives, dinner forks, dessert forks, soup spoons, and dessert spoons. These pieces are characterised by square-ended handles decorated with a cast climbing rose and leaf motif. The knives in this service feature stainless steel blades fitted into weighted decorative handles.
The broader collection includes a variety of serving implements, notably a large ladle with a scalloped circular bowl and a curved floral handle, a smaller sauce ladle, a cheese plane with a foliate embossed handle, and a pair of specialized serving tongs with ring-handle grips and three-tined ends. Also present is an assortment of cake or pastry forks with varying tine configurations, oversized serving spoons, and decorative souvenir spoons, one of which bears a small enamel-effect crest on the terminal.
Stamping is visible on the neck of the rose-patterned flatware handles. One handle bears a series of impressed characters including E, P, N, and S in individual rectangular cartouches, followed by further characters that are not legible. No maker’s name is spelled out in the marks. The collection is housed in a wooden cutlery tray with internal dividers and a green baize-lined compartment.
