Description

A Central European hunting set comprising a large hanger (Hirschfänger), a companion utility skinning knife (Beinmesser), and a fitted scabbard. The hanger features a straight, single-edged steel blade terminating in a spear point. The blade is decorated with etched hunting iconography, including depictions of stags and hounds within a woodland environment. An etched line of text is visible above the hunting scene on one side of the blade, though the characters are heavily worn and illegible. The hilt is constructed with a brass crossguard featuring acorn-shaped terminals and a down-turned shell-shaped guard. The grip consists of two textured stag horn scales secured to the tang by three oval brass rivets.

The accompanying skinning knife is a smaller utility blade with a stag horn handle secured by two pins. This knife is housed in a dedicated compartment on the front of the scabbard. The scabbard is constructed of leather-covered wood with brass fittings, including a locket with a frog stud, a mid-band with two suspension rings, and a protective chape at the tip.
