A Victorian walnut trumpet-form sewing or work table. The octagonal hinged top is finished with book-matched burr walnut veneers within a crossbanded border. The top opens to reveal a fitted interior containing multiple peripheral compartments, several of which retain their original floral patterned paper lining. A central octagonal pincushion is upholstered in a green fabric. The tapering octagonal body is supported by a turned collar above a carved tripod base. Each cabriole leg is decorated with acanthus leaf carvings at the knee and terminates in a scroll foot. The internal secondary timbers appear to be cedar or mahogany.
